Community Initiatives

At Nuyorican Books, we believe in the power of community. Our community initiatives are dedicated to celebrating and protecting Puerto Rican culture through literacy, philanthropy, and education. Please see below for more information about our current community partnerships. 

1. Boricua Film Festival

For two consecutive years, Nuyorican Books participated in the Boricua Film Festival in NJ, an event committed to celebrating Puerto Rican culture through film. Our role as a community partner is one we take very seriously, as it aligns with our mission of celebrating Boricua storytelling. Thanks to our partnership with the Boricua Community Building Center, we've been able to connect storytellers from Puerto Rico to the diaspora--while educating audiences about environmental issues, social justice, and historical events. 

2. Proyecto Ague del Aire 

Nuyorican Books is proud to be a community partner of Proyecto Agua del Aire, an initiative that would install 5 atmospheric water generators (AWGs) in Puerto Rico. This partnership not only directly addresses the water shortage, but would also create a more self-sufficient method of accessing water in times of need. This is a long-term plan that includes installation of AWGs, maintenance warranties, solar panels, and pledges from community members to ensure the project's success. Click here to learn more!
